We are very happy to present Anastasia Bay's first solo show in Paris entitled "Can’t Bust’Em".
Drawing its themes from art history, mythology and popular imagery, Anastasia Bay's paintings bear witness to a frenzy that has taken hold of contemporary visual culture. The mysterious, sometimes disturbing characters are caught in vibrant movements, blurring the lines of their barely sketched bodies and faces.
The title of the exhibition "Can't Bust' Em" is borrowed from a brand of jeans known for the strength of its denim canvases, a direct analogy with the composition of the painting in several wefts and the blues treated in different shades. Anastasia Bay mixes periods and genres without hierarchy and gives new life to classic scenes from the history of painting, making over a Matisse's Dance with a pair of jeans or multicolored flip-flops.
